REBECCA
SCOTT, was
born into a musical family and began violin lessons with
her mother, Ita Herbert at an early age. When she was eight,
she started solo and chamber music classes with Sheila
Nelson and made several appearances on television playing
in various quartets taking part in National competitions.
Rebecca won a Martin Trust scholarship at fifteen, to study
with Yossi Zivoni with whom she continued at the Royal
Northern College of Music. During her time there she led
the Argyll string quartet and won all four chamber music
competitions at the college.
Upon
graduating with degrees in solo violin and quartet performance,
she went out to study in Chicago, Illinois before joining ‘Chamber
Blues’ , a quartet that performed extensively in
the U.S. and Canada. In 1998, Rebecca returned to England
and began free-lancing in London, working with the LSO,
Philharmonia and various chamber orchestras. She became
a member of the Academy of St.Martin in the Fields in 2000
and City of London Sinfonia, earlier this year. She has
also been a teacher at Harrow school for the past six years
and has given numerous chamber music recitals in a variety
of groups throughout the U.K.
NICOLA BAXTER,
born in 1971, studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Lionel
Handy, winning prizes for both solo ‘cello and chamber
music, before graduating with first class honours and a postgraduate
scholarship to study with Johannes Goritzki in Germany. Under
a Martin Musical Trust scholarship she then studied under Arto
Noras in Vienna and William Pleeth in London.
In 1995 she gave her first broadcast on Radio
3 as part of the Young Artists’ Forum series, and also
joined Yehudi Menuhin’s Live Music Now! scheme, giving
recitals throughout the country. In 1995 she also became an associate
member of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.
She was a member of the Boccherini String Trio
until 2000 and in1999 won second prize in the International Beethoven
Society’s ‘cello/piano duo prize; she has performed
in master classes at Prussia Cove and the Britten-Pears School
in Aldeburgh.
From 2001 to 2005 she was ‘cellist of
the Fitzwilliam String Quartet, with whom she performed regularly
in Europe, Russia, North America and South Africa; they also
gave concerts and master classes at several universities and
festivals both here and abroad.
Her solo repertoire includes many of the major ‘cello
concertos, which she has performed both here and in the USA.
She has also performed all of the six solo suites by Bach in
festivals in Scotland , England and Germany and given solo performances
in Switzerland and the USA. This year Nicola will be playing
the Brahms double and Shostakovich’s first concerto in
London and giving several recitals throughout the UK.
As a teacher Nicola has taught at Hendon Music
School (1997-1999), Caldicott Preparatory School in Bucks (2000 – 2002)
and teaches privately at her home in North London. She occasionally
teaches at the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall school
of music and Drama and has given ad hoc solo and chamber music
coaching at universities both here and abroad.
Orchestrally, Nicola has worked with many London
orchestras such as the Philharmonia, London Symphony Orchestra,
BBC Scottish SO and, further afield, the Camerata Roman in Sweden
. Nicola currently works regularly with the Academy of St Martin
in the Fields chamber orchestra, City of London Sinfonia and
the Orchestra of St John’s Smith Square.
MINA MILETIC was
born in Belgrade to parents of Serbian and Bulgarian heritage.
After gaining a Science Degree and attending the Academy of Music
in Belgrade where she studied on full scholarship and obtained
the BMus with highest distinction, Mina Miletić joined the
Postgraduate Performance Course at the Royal Academy of Music
in London where she was awarded the E Power Biggs bursary and
where she studied with Paul Lewis and Colin Stone.
Mina obtained the RAM Postgraduate
Diploma in July 2002 and was awarded distinction for her final
recital. Prize-winner of many awards, Mina received a special
bursary from the Serbian Ministry of Science, ‘Mokranjac
Prize’ for outstanding
achievement, Newby Trust Educational Grant, Craxton Memorial
Trust Award, Sir Richard Stapeley Educational Trust Award.
Mina Miletić established her career regularly appearing
in recital, as a chamber musician and concerto soloist at musical
venues and festivals throughout Europe. She performed at the
30 th Belgrade Music Festival (BEMUS), ex-Yugoslavia’s
most prestigious festival, recorded for Serbian National Radio
and TV (RTS) and has given many RTS live broadcasts. Her international
engagements have included concerts in Bulgaria, France, Norway,
Portugal, Spain, UK and ex-Yugoslavia.
Mina is currently preparing her doctoral thesis on ‘Interpretation
of Impressionistic Piano Music’. She is also the Honorary
Secretary of the Beethoven Piano
Society of Europe since 2004, Visiting Piano Teacher at Harrow
School since 2003 and is active as a contributor and reviewer
for the ‘Arietta’ Journal.
