PROFILES

MAISIE RINGHAM is a professional free-lance orchestral trombone player and soloist. After studying at the Royal Manchester College of Music (now the Royal Northern College of Music) she became the prinicpal trombonist in the BBC Midland Light Orchestra. Eighteen months later she was invited to join the Halle Orchestra, then conducted by Sir John Barbirolli, and for approximately ten years was his principal trombonist.

As a soloist, she has appeared in most of the main concert halls in the United Kingdom and has carried out solo tours of Canada, America, Australia, New Zealand, Holland, Sweden and Norway. A number of trombone solos have been specially composed for her, and with the Halle, she gave the first performance in England of the 'Fantasy for Trombone' by the American composer, Paul Creston. She has also made recordings and appeared on radio and television.

She teaches brass instrumentalists in public schools including Harrow School, conducts brass and concert bands and runs the Herga Swing band.

THE HERGA SWING BAND
Well over twenty years ago Maisie Ringham, who was the Brass Coach of the then Harrow Youth Orchestra, was requested to form a Brass Consort with the brass members of the orchestra. This she did and the group eventually developed into a brass band and later into a swing band. Ultimately it became a swing band under its present title. Herga is the medieval name for Harrow.

Maisie Ringham has been the Musical Director throughout its evolution.

The Band performs for many events from Christmas Concerts to Summer Fetes and from Wedding Receptions to Rotary and other Charity functions.
